I was asking if the Early Northerns was classified as Protestants or Puritans when it came to their religious category.
Puritans make up one of the (many) groups which are protestants.

Some early Northern settlers were puritans, we often focus on them as they kept detailed records.

But in any case, they were both: puritans, and protestants.
Early Northerns could apply to almost any country at any time.

However if you're asking about the northern American colonies, then they were classified as Protestant.
