It can be genetics, but also offspring learn from their parents. The more complex the organism, the greater the role of learning. Thus the characteristics of higher level organisms are developed from a complex interaction between genetics and life experiences. One of the main experiences is the parents "modeling" behavior for the offspring to imitate.
