Why do soldiers have to operate as a unit, not as individuals?

We answered that this afternoon.
they are stronger as a unit. in a unit you know that ther are people looking out for you and if you are being attacked by more than one person, you automatically sooner or latter someone will come to your rescue.

also the attack will be stronger in a unit and defence.

example- if there is a buly in ur school and you go up to him to fight him , you might lose but if you go with 10 of your friends the chances of you losing are less.
