I believe you are correct. He didn't what to be part of a monarchy and be king and by accepting a third term, people would find it as a lifetime position which he didn't what to carry. I'd choose A.
I would also choose A although he did want to get home.
Yes, A is correct, and Damon is right. He really did want to retire and go home. All his life he was devoted to his family and his plantation and home. That's where he wanted to be. But the record shows that he did not want the presidency to be a life-time job a la a monarchy, so he had more than one motive for refusing a third term.
