What form is the energy turned into by a mitochondria?

Mitochondria is a plural word.
They are units within a cell that produce ATP, the primary energy source for muscle action. They carry out a reaction between various sugars and oxygen that exchanges one form of chemical energy for another that is more readily and efficiently used.
