I have the answers! WARNING: WE MIGHT BE AT DIFFERENT CONNECTIONS SCHOOLS, SO QUESTIONS MAY DIFFER. I RECOMMEND TRYING TO REWRITE THE WRITTEN OUT QUESTIONS IN YOUR OWN WORDS!!! I helped in all the ways I can :-)
.) D - Seeing the untouched bowls of chili, the chef laughed. "One of my biggest hits!"
.) C - Would a cardboard belt be a waist of paper?
.) B - verbal irony
.) B - drill
.) After he added too much milk to the batter, Shawn's dough became too _______. ANSWER - soggy
.) B - large : gigantic
.) A - bored
.) B - accomplished
.) MY ANSWER: Verbal irony is when someone says the opposite of what they mean, such as saying "What a beautiful day, I'm glad I came prepared." When it's pouring out and you don't have an umbrella.
.) MY ANSWER: A homophonic pun is a play on words that sound the same but have different meanings, while a homographic pun is a play on words that are spelled the same but have different meanings.
.) MY ANSWER: The phrase "in a chord" is a metaphor, which means that the two pianists were in harmony and agreement with each other. This suggests that their marriage was strong and healthy.
.) MY ANSWER: Using the negative connotation of a word instead of the positive can make a sentence more powerful and largen the point being made, but it can also be seen as mean or offensive.
