just expand using the distributive property
(x+2)(x+2)

x^2 + 2x + 2x + 4
= x^2 + 4x + 4

memorize (a+b)^2 = a^2 + 2ab + b^2

If you are evaluating it is this:
(x+2)(x+2)
Multiply x+2 and x+2 to get (x+2)^2
(x+2)^2
Use binomial theorem (a+b)^2=a^2+2ab+b^2 to expand (x+2)^2.
x^2+4x+4
