how does a ticker timer work and how can a ticker timer be used to measure the displacement and velocity of a moving object in a mechanics practical?

The ticks are at set time intervals, but the distance between the ticks is a direct measure of displacement.

So you can graph displacement vs time.

If you take two conseective marks, you can get then the change in displacement /time, which is velocity.
