Could you give us an example?

Here is an example: you have 1 over 2 = x over 6. You would do 2 times x which equals 2x then you would do 1 times 6 which is 6. 2x=6 then you would divide by 2 and your answer would be 3x. So basically your cross multiplying hope that this example helps you out.

Leslie can read about 2192 words is 8 minutes.About how many words can she read in 60 minutes?

Damon
(2192 words / 8 min) * 60 min = 16,440
or
2192/8 = x/60
multiply both sides by (60*8) also called "cross multiplying".
(2192/8)(60*8) = (x/60) * 60 * 8
2192 * 60 = 8 x
x = 2192 *60/8
which we already knew
