Answered by mathhelper
1(n^2) + 2n + 6 = 36
n^2 + 2n = 30
n^2 + 2n + 1 = 31
(n+1)^2 = 31
n = -1 ± √31

If you allow bases other than whole numbers, which is usually how bases are defined.
