if the log is base 10, then
log 5^x = -2
x log5 = -2
x = -2/log5
if you meant log base 5, then the definition of log gives you
x = 5^-2 = 1/25
log 5^x = -2
x log5 = -2
x = -2/log5
if you meant log base 5, then the definition of log gives you
x = 5^-2 = 1/25
