5 ft x 12 in/ft = 60 in

2 ft x 12in/ft = 24 in
(60 in + 3 in) - (24 in+ 8 in) = 31 in = 2.583333... ft

That's 2 ft and more than a half (0.583333...)
So 2 ft, 7 in.
