A particle moving along the x-axis started from the origin and travelled at aconstant speed of 6m/s to x=24m.then it returned to x=12m with a constant speed of 2m/s.calculate the average speed and the average velocity of the particle for the whole trip

x = 0 to x = 24 at v = 6
distance = 24
displacement= + 24
time = 24/6 = 4 seconds
x = 24 to x = 12
distance = 12
displacement = -12
time = 12/2 = 6 seconds
total distance = 24 + 12 = 36
total displacement = +24 - 12 = +12
total time = 6+4 = 10 seconds
average speed = total distance / total time = 36/10 = 3.6 m/s
average velocity = total displacement /total time = +12/10 = +1.2m/s in +x direction
