The amount of lemons used to make lemonade varies directly with how many gallons are made. It takes 32 lemons to make 4 gallons. How many lemons will it take to make 17 gallons?

let the number of lemons be l
let the number of gallons of lemonade be g
l = kg, where k is a constant
if l = 32, and g = 4
32 = 4k
k = 32/4 = 8
l = 8g
then if g = 17
l = 8(17) lemons = 136 lemons
or
l/17 = 32/4
l = 17(32/4) = 136
