p(x) = x^4-9x^3-5x^2-3x+4
p(-5) = 625 - 9(-125) - 5(25) - 3(-5) + 4 = 1644
so p(x) is not evenly divisible by x + 5
Your division should show that
p(x) = (x+5)(x^3 - 14x^2 + 65x - 328) + 1644
Your algorithms, whichever way you set it up, should clearly show that
p(-5) = 625 - 9(-125) - 5(25) - 3(-5) + 4 = 1644
so p(x) is not evenly divisible by x + 5
Your division should show that
p(x) = (x+5)(x^3 - 14x^2 + 65x - 328) + 1644
Your algorithms, whichever way you set it up, should clearly show that
