Jerald's initial amount = x+18

after exchange:

Larry now has x + k
Jerald now has x+18 - k

x+k - (x+18-k) = 26
2k = 44
k = $22 , the amount that Jerald gave to Laryy

The initial amount does not matter,
e.g.
let Larry' starting money be $123
The Jerald had 123+18 = 141

They exchanged $22
so larry now has 141-22 = 119
and Jerald now has 123+22 = 145
which is 26 less than what Larry has
