number at start --- x
sold 3/4 of x, leaving 1/4 of x or x/4
ate (1/6) of x/4 , leaving (5/6)(x/4) = 5x/24
5x/24 = 35
5x = 840
x = 168 <---- number of cookies baked
check:
sold 3/4 of 168 , or 126, leaving 42 cookies
ate 1/6 of 42 cookies, or ate 7 cookies, leaving 35
