The ratio of Ben's almonds to Amber's almonds was 7:4. After Ben ate 35 almonds, the ratio became 1:2. How many almonds did Ben have at first?

Ben had 7x - 35

(7x-35)/4x = 1/2
cross-multiply
14x - 70 = 4x
