There were green, red and yellow bean bags in a basket. 1/3 of the bean bags were green and the number of red bean bags was 21 less than 1/2 the number of green bean bags. There were 162 yellow bean bags. How many red bean bags were there in the basket?

If there were x bean bags, then
x/3 were green
x/6 - 21 were red
so, adding up the three colors,
x/3 + x/6 - 21 + 162 = x
x = 282
x/3 were green
x/6 - 21 were red
so, adding up the three colors,
x/3 + x/6 - 21 + 162 = x
x = 282
