Cindy, Dorothy and Ellen each made an equal number of paper hearts for a fund raising project. Cindy and Dorothy each sold some paper hearts Ellen sold 70 paper hearts. The 3 girls had a total of 85 paper hearts left. Cindy had 1/4 as many paper hearts as Dorothy left while Ellen had 5 fewer paper hearts than Cindy left. How many paper hearts did Dorothy sell?

If C sold x hearts, and D sold y, then since C=D=E,
C-x + C-y + C-70 = 85
C-x = 1/4 (C-y)
C-70 = C-x-5
now solve for y.
