1. How does sunlight reach Earth?
Light from the sun travels through space to Earth as transverse waves. These light waves do not need a medium in which to travel.
2. Think about the path that light from the sun takes to shine through your window. What does it travel through?

Sunlight travels at the speed of light. Photons emitted from the surface of the Sun need to travel across the vacuum of space to reach our eyes. The short answer is that it takes sunlight an average of 8 minutes and 20 seconds to travel from the Sun to the Earth. Light moves at 300,000 kilometers/second.
