Why is it impossible to combine the expression

radical 3x + 3^ radical 3x

into a single term? Explain.

√(3x) + 3^√(3x)
In general powers of different bases cannot be combined.
and polynomials and exponentials are different animals.
Also, √(3x) is not even defined for x < 0
