Write the formula, complete ionic AND net ionic equation for the following,
a) CaCl2(aq) + K2SO4(aq)
b) Sr(OH)2(aq) + MgSO4

CaCl2(aq) + K2SO4(aq) ==> CaSO4 + 2KCl
Ca^2+(aq) + 2Cl^-(aq) + 2K^+(aq) + [SO4]^2-(aq) ==> CaSO4(s) + 2K^+(aq) + 2Cl^-(aq) is the total ionic equation.
To make that into the net ionic equation simply cancel those ions that appear on bot sides of the equation. I see 2K^+(aq) and 2Cl^-(aq) on both sides so cancel those. What's left is the net ionic equation.
Ca^2+(aq) + [SO4]^2-(aq) ==> CaSO4(s)
The 2K^+ and 2Cl^- are called spectator ions since they do not enter into the reaction. The net ionic equation is the reaction.
