Average Rate of Change
= (f(-1+h) - f(-1))/(-1+h - (-1))
= ( (h-1)^2 - (-1)^2)/h
= (h^2 - 2h + 1 - 1)/h
= h - 2

could you explain the steps you took?

you really need to review what the average rate of change means. It is the slope of the secant line.
