It could be C, but read all these carefully before you make up your mind.
I did, and i picked C but i was wrong....i could have missed something :(
B and D don't make any sense. The war with the Japanese was taking place on the other side of the world. And the goal of the European part of this war was Europe, not the Middle East.

You already know C is wrong.

A is correct. All you have to know is that General Patton was leading the US forces in North Africa and from there he took his troops into Italy. US troops moved into Europe from there.
