Mon ya and kishi I were hiking in the mts. Stopped for lunch on a ledge 100 ft above the valley. Kishi climbed to a ledge 20 ft above Mona . Mon ya throws an apple up to kashi but she missed it. The equation h= -16t2 + 30t + 1000 represents the height in ft of the apple t seconds after thrown. SO HOW long did it take for the apple to reach the ground? NEXT if it takes 3 seconds to react, will they have time to warn hikers below. Assume sound travel 1000 ft per second

0= -16t^2 + 30t + 1000
That means starting ledge at 1000 feet, not 100. Which is it ?
assuming 1000, solve that quadratic for t
one root will be negative. Do not use it. That was before you threw it.
looks like about 9 seconds in the air
9 - 3 = they have 6 seconds for the yell to travel 1000 feet
but the noise only needs one second
