Your question is too general to give a specific answer. You don't say what kind of solution (molar, normal, percent, what). In general, to prepare a 1 M solution of a material, take 1 mole of it (weight out 1 mole in grams), add that to a 1 L volumetric flask, add some water, dissolve it thoroughly, then make to the mark on the volumetric flask with water. That prepares a 1 M solution. If you have a stock solution, you simply dilute it. Look in your text. Usually texts give pretty good directions for making solutions.
