Maybe:
Never use a cup as an ashtray.

Perhaps you are supposed to learn when to use "a" and when to use "an."
As a general rule, use "an" before a word that starts with a vowel.
an angel
an elephant
an ignoramus
an object
an undergarment
but a mistake :)
