Jane is organizing a fundraiser to buy a ping-pong table for the community center. The table costs $500.00. Jane is asking contributors to pay for an equal share of the cost of the table. She already has five contributors lined up. What function models the cost per share, C, with respect to the number of new contributors, n? How many new contributors must Jane recruit in order for the cost of each share to be $20.00?

500 / 20 = 25 contributors

Damon
but that is 20 ADDITIONAL contributers
500 = 20 (n+5)
20 n + 100 = 500
20 n = 400
n = 20
500 = 20 (n+5)
20 n + 100 = 500
20 n = 400
n = 20

Hey Damon I just had a quick question.In the function that we use to model the cost per share,c, with respect to the number of new contributors,n, do we have to include the variable c like you did with the variable n?

Hey, William! I don't know if you still need to know this, but the regular function would be 500 = C (n + 5) if you were to include the C.

Ya'll are wrong.
5 contributors offered to pay for 2 shares.
The equation 500= C(n+5) is if each contributor payed for one share
If each contributor is paying 2 shares each that is 10 shares in total.
500= C(n+10)
500=20(n+10)
500=20n+200
-200 each side
300=20n
Divide both sides by 20
15=n
15 new contributors
