you know that area is length * width, right?
Since the width is 12 less than twice the length, if the length is x, then the width is 2x-12
So, now you know that
(2x-12)(x) = 270
2x^2 - 12x - 270 = 0
x^2 - 6x - 135 = 0
(x-15)(x+9) = 0
x = 15
so, the rectangle is 15x18
