How good leader can protect the interest of their follower

a. The leader has to be committed to the long term interests, of just not followers, but all he she leads. Leadership is more than looking for the interests of followers. Jesus is a great example...he didn't have very many followers in his life, but his leadership was aimed at many more, including "sinners". Remember the woman at the well?
b. Leaders have to have a strong moral compass, because some of the "followers" will venture into evil and hate...I am reminded of John McCain on his public reprimand of a follower who was espousing hate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIjenjANqAk
c. Leadership is standing firm, setting the example on right and wrong, even when it is not popular, nor convenient, to do.
