As a result of the Whiskey Rebellion, the post-revolution powers of the federal government’s authority were tested in many important ways. As a young union of states, the recently united America was presented with a new federal government that was invested with new rights: to impose on all states certain taxes under which nobody was exempt; to pass new laws that affected all states; and to enforce those laws if citizens did not follow them. This period in history became an important learning experience for Americans. This particular incident gave them cause to understand and experience the coordinated powers wielded by both their local state governments and the federal government in times of unrest and resistance.
