The relative electric charge of a proton is +1, the relative electric charge of an electron is -1 and that of neutron is 0.
What is electric charge and why is it relative?

The proton was established as the basic unit of charge. It was arbritary. Electric charge is a property of matter that either attracts or repels other charges.
