It's not both. Are the segments, vignettes, told in first person? If so, C is your answer. If not, B is.

Thanks Reed I Chose C Am I Correct Or Should I Change My Answer

Let me rephrase. Are the vignettes told as if the character, the father, is telling his own story, or are the stories/vignettes told by a third-person observer? (This time, I do have the story right here, in the first book it was published in, Problems.

No. C is not correct. Read the story carefully. The vignettes from the past are told in third person. The author's own memories of his own parents are told in first person. They are not all told from the point of view of the character being described. They are about different time periods, different generations of the same family.

Your Right So It Would Make More Sense B Am I Correct I Did Read The The Story A Few Times But Still Unsure

Yes, I agree with B. "And letters survive from that yet prior son..." is in the third person, is it not?
Answered by
Reed
So, not all of the story is told from the character's own point of view. The narrator tells of his own experiences as a father and a son from his own point of view, but the ancestors' vignettes are also told from his own point of view as an observer, not the first-person accounts of the prior fathers and sons.

I'm reminded of a friend who asked what I was reading. He decided to read the same novel. He did not read carefully and thoughtfully - he skimmed parts of it I guess. He concluded that one of he main characters committed suicide by walking into a mine-field. The author was very clear that the character was very ill and delirious and wandered into the mine-field unintentionally. Go figure. It pays to read slowly and thoughtfully.
