Ok, this equation is confusing me and I don't know how to do it
5/8 - (1/4) ^2
I know that 5/8-1/4 is 3/8, but what else do I do?

According to the order of operation, the exponent part has to be done first, so ...
5/8 - (1/4) ^2
= 5/8 - 1/16
= 10/16 - 1/16
= 9/16
btw, this would not be called an equation, it is an expression.
5/8 - (1/4) ^2
= 5/8 - 1/16
= 10/16 - 1/16
= 9/16
btw, this would not be called an equation, it is an expression.
