I need help on how to solve equations like this

(y-5)/3 =1

I don't quite understand it

4 answers

objective: get y alone.
1) multiply both sides by 3
y-5=3
add 5 to each side
y=8
(y-5)/3 =1

Multiply both sides by 3

y - 5 = 3

Add 5 to both sides.

y = 8
Thank you, Ms.Sue and Bob! I never really understood how to solve these types of equations
You're welcome.
