0.314 m means 0.314 mol alanine in 1000g of water.
moles = (1000g)/(18.02 g/mol H20) = 55.56 mol

mole fraction (Xa) = moles of a/total moles
mole fraction Alanine = (0.314)/(0.314+55.56)
=2.41x10^-3
