If the fraction is n/d, we are told that
d = 4n-1
Now we are told that
(n+1)/(d+1) = 3/8
(n+1)/(4n-1+1) = 3/8
(n+1)/(4n) = 3/8
8(n+1) = 3(4n)
8n+8 = 12n
8 = 4n
n = 2
The original fraction was 2/7
adding 1 top and bottom gives 3/8
d = 4n-1
Now we are told that
(n+1)/(d+1) = 3/8
(n+1)/(4n-1+1) = 3/8
(n+1)/(4n) = 3/8
8(n+1) = 3(4n)
8n+8 = 12n
8 = 4n
n = 2
The original fraction was 2/7
adding 1 top and bottom gives 3/8
