Steve, I don't like any of these choices. I think "hopelessness" is the best answer of the four, but absurdist literature and philosophy contends that our attempt to find meaning in life is humanly impossible. That does not necessarily preclude the hope that things will turn out well.

But, yes, I think your answer is the best available.
