Scientists report (1) that creatures living in the deep sea are in danger of starving to death.
The underlined part of sentence 1 is what kind of clause?
adverbial clause
adjectival clause
noun clause
Independent clause
My answer is independent because if you remove the word that the sentence can stand alone.

Which part of the sentence is underlined? From "that" to the end of the sentence?
If so, then it's not independent.
If "Scientists report" is underlined, then yes, that's the independent clause.

Yes, I was assuming that if the clause beginning "that" was eliminated, "Scientists report" is an independent clause.
