The language of the Roman Empire was Latin. The Empire was "latinized" as the Roman armies took over other territories and imposed Roman forms of government and "civilization" on the conquered lands. Language is inherent to a culture, so as Roman culture was spread around the Mediterranean and into Europe, Romam ways and language spread.
