I think B is the best answer, yes.
As in most colonies of every European state, the locals chafed under the obligation to share local (in this case, Mexican) wealth with the homeland, and being considered inferior to the Spanish in Spain. They wanted control over their own resources and their own fates instead of being ruled from abroad.
