                A taxi service charges a $1.90 fee for each ride plus an additional .80 per mile. If a taxi ride cost $4.30, how many miles did the taxi travel travel during the ride?

    Start with the fee for each ride.
What do you need to add to it?

    But you don't know how many miles the taxi traveled.
1.90 + 0.80x = 4.30
0.8x = 2.40
x = 3 miles

1.90 + 0.80x = 4.30
0.8x = 2.40
x = 3 miles
