Why is the weight of an object less on the moon than on Earth?

g = 9.8 m/s^2 on earth.
g = 1.6 m/s^2 on the moon.
So the wt. of an object is less on the moon because the acceleration due to gravity is less. Wt. = M*g. The mass doesn't
change.
