The following question asks about one or more selections from your textbook Literature. You may use your textbook to answer this question. Both “The Road Not Taken” and “O Captain! My Captain!” are analogies. Write a paragraph comparing the authors’ use of analogy. What is analogy? How does Frost use analogy in his poem? How does Whitman use analogy in his poem? Why has each of these analogy poems become so famous?

Let's start with one of the questions. What is an analogy?

You need to compare the uses of analogy that Whitman and Frost made in those poems. What are they comparing?

In the instructions, you are asked to compare. When you're working on a writing assignment, "compare" means to tell how two things are similar (while "contrast" means to tell how they are different).
Your instructions also say to write a paragraph, not a full essay, which is good since comparing (telling similarities) usually involves writing fewer sentences.
Once you are clear on the meaning of "analogy," as Ms. Sue asked, a large part of your paragraph should be easy to write. Just remember to address all three questions in your assignment.

2.Figurative language is when you use a word outside of it's normal meaning. Concrete Mixers uses figurative language to describe the way the truck mixes concrete. They are compared to "big gray elephants" because to the similarity of the "tubes that look like trunks", going down and emptying the load and then going up when not in use. The drivers of the concrete mixers "perch on their back like mahouts". Mahouts are elephant riders, trainers and elephant zoo-keepers. "the drivers are washing the elephant mixers, like elephant tenders, they hose them down.
3.My reading selection is called "Weedflower by Cynthia Kadohata". The impact it had on me was that it made me feel sympathetic for the innocent Japanese Americans that were "thrown into ancient military bunks without any explanation". Yes, i would recommend this book to a friend because it is a great example of historical fiction. I think that it's great because Kadohata wrote about "an elegant humble...." character who "adapted to changes outside of her control". Evidence from the text is in "...".
