one way is just plain substitution. You know that y = 5x-3, so use that in the other equation:
y = -3x+5
5x-3 = -3x+5
8x = 8
x = 1
Now, y = 5x-3 = 5-3 = 2
substituting for x will also work, but then you have fractions to work with, since
x = (y+3)/5 or (5-y)/3
y = -3x+5
5x-3 = -3x+5
8x = 8
x = 1
Now, y = 5x-3 = 5-3 = 2
substituting for x will also work, but then you have fractions to work with, since
x = (y+3)/5 or (5-y)/3
