well, start by thinking what is a 50% raise
in all cases, original = 100
now 50% = 50
so now 150 instead of 100
now 100% = 100
so now 200 instead of 100
now 150%
so now 250 instead of 100
In other words 150% raise is 150% more than original or 250% OF original. Two and a half times original :)
