A glass containing 250 mL of 80% iodine solution tips over spelling part of its contents. This subsequently replaced by an

amount from a mixture of 40% iodine. If a 72% solution is resulted, how much was spilled?

if x mL were lost and replaced, then

.80(250-x) + .40x = .72*250
