Asked by Matt

Marta, Loribeth, and Ira all have bicycles. The table shows the number of miles of each rider's last bike ride, as well as the time it took to complete the ride.

Marta:
Distance of Last Ride (in miles)
8
Time Spent on Last Bike Ride (in minutes)
80

Loribeth:
Distance of Last Ride (in miles)
6
Time Spent on Last Bike Ride (in minutes)
42

Ira:
Distance of Last Ride (in miles)
15
Time Spent on Last Bike Ride (in minutes)

a. What is Marta's unit rate, in minutes per mile?
80 min/8 miles=x/1
80x1=80
80/8=10 minutes
x=10

10 minutes in 1 mile

b. Whose speed was the fastest on their bike ride?
I chose Ira because:
75 min/15miles=x/1
75x1=75
75/15=5 min
Loribeth was 7 minutes in 1 mile so I chose Ira.

If all three riders travel 3.5 hours at the same speed as their last ride, how many total miles will the three riders travel altogether? Explain

I am somewhat stuck on the last part of the question.

Can you please assist me and can you also check to see if my answers are correct?

Thank you

(a) and (b) look ok

distance = speed * time, so since the time is the same (3.5 hrs), just add up all the speeds and multiply by 210 minutes:

210(8/80 + 6/42 + 15/75) = 93 miles

I wasn’t sure of this question either but, you need to just multiply the distance of last ride by 3.5 that’s what I did. Someone check if I’m wrong. Thank you
Or just give me the answer pls and thank u

Well this question is pretty easy when you can cross multiply. So for all of Martha Lori and Ira you would make them into ratios basically saying 8 miles for 80 minutes or whatever the ratio it is your working on. Then we would do x miles for 210 minutes. This would create x 8
210 80 indicating the fraction. So we multiply 8 times 210 and divide that by 80 because that is the only side that does not have a number across from it. The number that is got after divided by 80 would be your answer.
