1. Think about the work you completed in your reading character role.

2. Write down the ideas you think are worth sharing in a literary discussion about dragonwings. (You should probably have 3 or 4.)

3. Explain why you chose those ideas.

4. How did the role you selected and the work you completed help you understand more about the text?

5. Give at least 2 examples (passages) from the book to prove why you wrote what you did in #4.

I'm sure it is a good book. I also think you are right that Writeacher, Ms. Sue, and I should read it! It is, however, hard for us to help you (and others) with this assignment. We do not know what is meant by your "reading character role" exercises are.

I think you are being asked to identify three or four themes found in the book - things the author wanted you to think about - that would be suitable for discussion in a group of people who have also read the book, as in a class discussion.

Alright, so, the character reading role is provided in the first lesson of this subject if you're a connexus student.
Pretty much you choose between Discussion Director, Word Watcher, Summarizer, Luminary, and Connector.

If you can't find where it says this (or you're just too lazy to) i'll go ahead and copy it for you.

D.D: What images come to mind as you read?
• If you could interview the author, what
question would you ask? Why?
• Predict what will happen next and why.
(Note: Prediction may not apply for
informational texts.)

W.W: • What new words did you find in this
selection?
• What words are used frequently?
• What words are used in unusual ways?

S: • What are the key facts and/or main ideas
in this selection?
• If you were to come up with an essay
topic for this selection, what main idea
would you choose? Write an essay
question or prompt.

L: • Which part of the reading (e.g., an
interesting fact, a piece of dialogue, an
event) really struck you? Why

C: Connect what you have read so far with
things you have experienced at home or
in your personal life.
• Connect what you have read so far to
what is going on in the world right now.
• Connect what you have read to the Big
Question.
